Abu Dhabi Expat Life Food Middle East United Arab Emirates

It’s not often a restaurant manages to combine memorable food, sophisticated service, funky design and an energising atmosphere but that’s what one of the highly anticipated newcomers to the Abu Dhabi restaurant scene has managed to do.

BU!, located on the 4th floor of ‘the Hub’ in the World Trade Centre Mall, brings modern Pan Latin food to Abu Dhabi with flair.  This stylish restaurant and bar combines food from all around Latin America, adding their own gourmet touch to traditional favourites.

Tuesday nights at BU! will whisk you off to one of the exotic Latin American countries to enjoy a range of gourmet treats and music to match. For the month of May, Destination focuses on Mexico which suited us perfectly – we absolutely love Mexican food!

With a menu like this, we knew we were in for a treat…

BU!’s set menu for the month of May’s destination evening

We started with the most beautifully seasoned homemade tortilla chips and guacamole which was followed up by a chili cream soup  served in a delicious toasted bread bowl – those of you that know me, know that I’m far from being an adventurous eater, but the soup was honestly amongst the best I’ve ever tried!

Top, left to right: Guacmole (with tortilla chips), Aguachile (shrimp) and Crema de Habanero (chili cream soup) – Main: Bun de Pato (duck on soft buns)

Following our starters, we enjoyed a range of tapas style Mexican dishes; each dish was cooked to perfection and stylishly served.  Nathan dug into the seafood options, proclaiming each one to be fresh and tasty whilst I couldn’t get enough of the melt-in-your-mouth deconstructed barbecue ribs.  Every plate that came out was impeccably put together and an explosion of beautifully balanced flavour.

Main: Anticuchos Pollo (chicken with ginger and oyster sauce, potatoes and corn)

Side, top to bottom: Cachetes de Res (beef cheek), Langosta Pescadillo (lobster) and BBQ Costillas (black angus ribs with smoked pineapple and citrus zest) – Main: Pescado (dory)

To finish our evening, out came dessert, complete with its own little theatrical show!  Dry ice and a delicious vanilla sauce was poured around the rice concoction and though I’d normally go for a rich chocolate dessert, this one was the perfect light ending to our dinner.

Arroz con Leche (puffed rice dessert) and Limon con Chia

The drinks complemented our menu perfectly and are designed to be light and healthy; we tried the Limon con Chia (homemade lemonade and chia seeds) and the Refresco (muddled citrus, strawberry puree and Sprite) – yum!  There was also an extensive offering of wine, beer and spirits (many of which have been brought into Abu Dhabi exclusively for Bu!) and staff that are able to explain suitable pairings.

How drinks should be served! Refresco

At 250AED (including taxes) for a couple you may find yourself surprised by just how full you’ll walk away. Granted, we enjoyed two extra starters, but even without them we would have been more than happy with the amount of food served.

From the moment we were warmly welcomed to our table right through to our last bite of dinner, it was clear that BU! deserves every bit of the glowing feedback it has already received, recognising it as one of the landmark restaurants in Abu Dhabi’s vibrant dining scene.   Eating out in this city really takes on a life of its own – in fact, we’ve never spent time in a city that revolves so strongly around dining – so when a restaurant receives such high praise, you know you’re onto a good thing.

The gorgeous rooftop area – perfect for drinks with friends or a special date night in the cooler months.

It’s not often you find a restaurant with a room like this!

Welcome to the city, BU!, we’re sure pleased you decided to join us!

Thank you to the team at BU! for so generously hosting us. As always, all views expressed on Exploring Kiwis are wholeheartedly our own.
